Anne A.
Hi! Welcome to Adorama! How are you today? My name is Anne. Do you have questions about a camera? Or a lens? How can I help?
Hello Anne, do all canon dslr model come as a kit?
Anne A.
not all of them
some are sold body only and you can chooose a lens
are there options to buy bodies only for all canon cameras?
Anne A.
not all of them
some of the entry level cameras come as a kit only
which one are you considering?
entry level cameras
Anne A.
let me check which come body only
thank you
Anne A.
just a minte
we have the t5i and t6i both as body only
do other shops have that as body only?
Anne A.
I am not sure
Im curious, how is expert or semi-expert cameras different from the beginners?
Anne A.
there are more features
do they use more complicated camera body?
Anne A.
they usually shoot faster and have more advanced focus systems
the pro cameras have more control on the camera body too (more buttons) instead of going into the menus
okay, so people like me who only takes pictures as a hobby don't neccessarily need an expert camera then?
Anne A.
no. but you can get fantastic images from the entry level cameras!
Can beginner canon dslr camera also capture starry night sky?
Anne A.
yes!
which camera do you use?
Anne A.
I shoot Nikon myself
I noticed from the Canon website that all the beginner dslr camera come with 18-55mm IS II kit or 18-55 IS STM lens kit. What's the difference between those?
Anne A.
the STM lens is better for video. it is silent focusing
what is IS II?
Anne A.
image stabilization
what does it stand for?
Anne A.
Image Stabilization, and the II means it's the newer version
so, comparing IS II and IS STM, IS II will be better to use when taking pictures?
Anne A.
yes
What does STM stand for?
Anne A.
stepper motor
can you take starry night sky with 18-55 mm lens?
Anne A.
you can, but it's easier with a wide aperture lens
the wider aperture lets in more light, so you can use a faster shutter speed and not get star trails
but you can definitely do it with the 18-55 lens too
Okay, so you can get more clear image of stars with a wide aperture lens
Anne A.
yes
this is a very good, inexpensive lens for night photography
Ah! Thanks!
What does EF-S stand for?
Anne A.
you're welcome!
Im not sure what it stands for exactly, but EF-S lenses are Canon's lenses for the crop sensor cameras (the t5i is a crop sensor)
EF is for the full frame lenses. YOu can use both EF-S and EF lenses on the t5i :-)
Sorry, I am totally a newbie in camera terms. What is 1) crop sensor 2)full frame?
Anne A.
that just refers to the sensor inside the camera
crop is a little smaller than full frame
so wide lens would use full frame then?
Anne A.
not necessarily. there are wide lenses for both
How would an image appear differently from EF and EF-S?
So when the product description says: "EOS Rebel T6 EF-S 18-55mm IS II Kit" it means it is using EF-S lens? and "EOS Rebel SL1 18-55mm IS STM Lens Kit" means it is NOT using EF-S lens?
Anne A.
no
they are both EF-S lenses
how can you tell?
Anne A.
it's not listed in the title, but they are both EF-S lenses
so if not specified in the title, is it normally referring to EF-S lens?
Anne A.
not always
but we don't have any kits here that the lens will not work with the camera
okay. then when you buy lens separetely, how do you know if that can go with other camera models?
Anne A.
the listing for the individual lens should say it
This may be a silly questions, in the description "EOS Rebel SL1 18-55mm IS STM Lens Kit" is SL1 referring to a model name?
Anne A.
yes. that is the camera's model name
so that's the body name
Anne A.
yes
what does f/3.5-5.6 mean?
f stands for focusing?
Anne A.
that is the aperture
what do the numbers represent?
Anne A.
that is the max aperture opening
Thanks for your kind replies. It helped me lots.
Anne A.
you're welcome!
