What cameras besides the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH4 are great for making high quality short videos?

I picked up my first camera when I was 8 and haven't put it down since. Let's make a movie!

Right now I'm looking for a camera that can take good quality pictures, but can also be used as an excellent camera for making short videos. This one was suggested. Are there other cameras that are also good for these things that won't be quite so pricy?
Nick K.
Hey! How can I help you?
I'm new to this whole camera thing. But I need a really good camera for shooting short videos.
I want to make some short (2-3 min) educational videos to put up on the web.
Nick K.
Okay cool! Whats your budget like?
I was hoping to stay under $2500, but with the price of cameras, I may not be able to do that.
Nick K.
Okay cool! So I see that you're looking at the GH4. The GH4 is a great camera for video. I also am a big fan of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and the Canon 5D. They will stay under your budget and do a great job!
Ill send you the links so you can check them out.
Will the Backmagic Pocket camera take additional lenses if I want to take a picture?
Nick K.
Well the BMPCC isnt good for taking still photos. If you wanted to do stills the 5D is your best bet. It does a nice job with video and still images and you can use all sorts of lenses with it!
What is the difference between the Canon and the Panasonic GH4?
Nick K.
The main difference is with the sensors. The 5D has a better sensor but the GH4 still has a great sensor on it. And the two cameras use different mount systems.
Would it be more difficult to find additional lenses for the GH4 or the Mark III?
Nick K.
I mean, I would say they are equally accessable. However, you get more of variety of lens choices with the 5D though.
Ok. I'm not sure what size lens I would need? A friend suggested a 12-35mm f2.8 OIS lens. Is that a pretty standard lens?
Nick K.
Yeah thats a good standard lens but like I said it really depends what you're trying to film. You said something about educational videos..Can you elaborate a little more of what youre shooting so I can give you a good lens recomendation?
Is the price on the Canon ($2,249.00) a pretty standard price for this site?
Nick K.
Yeah it is, especially for that camera. The 5D Mark III is one of the best cameras on the market!
The educational videos will be titles like "How to prune a fruit tree"
Another might be "How to calebrate a spreader or sprayer"
Nick K.
Okay great. Well, I guess that type of focal length of a lens would be good because you'll have a variety of ways to get shots instead of going with a standard prime lens. So, what camera were you thinking of going with so I can give you a proper lens recomendation?
You know, between the GH4 and the 5D that is.
I really want to stay below the $2,500 budget for the camera and lens, so I think I will have to go with the GH4 even though I would really like the 5D.
Nick K.
Thats a smart choice for the price. Let me pull up some lens options for :-)
However, I will say that going with a zoom lens like the 12-35mm would be tough because theres a crop factor. A crop factor pretty much doubles the focal length..it pretty much doubles the focal length of a lens
But it stills a great lens
Heres another good option
Thanks. I'll see if I can get the money approved to make the purchase.
Thank you for your help.
Nick K.
