Anne A.
Hi! Welcome to Adorama! How are you today? My name is Anne. Do you have questions about a camera? Or a lens? How can I help?
So i shoot car photography and soon to be videography. I am upgrading from a Nikon 3200 (great starter camera) and I have used i for long enough to say that I understand it, and can move up. I am looking into the Sony a7
I want full frame
Anne A.
the Sony is a great camera!
What would you reccomend
Anne A.
do you have a lot of lenses for the nIkon?
nope only the one 18-55mm lol
Anne A.
ok
I want a camera i can grow into and truly envelop myself into my hobby of car photography more
I love the mirrorless but I am kind of blind
Anne A.
So you shoot still shots? or rollers?
both
More stills
but i want to play with rollers
like this is my "lets really get serious about my pictures" new camera
Anne A.
mirrorless camera can shoot very fast
they are also typically smaller than the DSLR's, but probably still bigger than the D3200
the only downside to sony right now, is the lack of lens choices
I will be getting attachements like a gimbal (for out of the car window roller shots) and a sloder dolley
slider*
Anne A.
ok
rollers can be hard!
the gimbal would be more for video
ya i have tried a few and they are SUPER hard without any attachemtns to help with extension
But for a all around good camera
would the a7 be worth changing too?
or like the gh4
i want to do video too and i would love 4k just the a7ii is 2000
Anne A.
I'd go for the A7 over the GH4 if you'll be doing mostly still photos (over video)
the GH4 is great for video
ok thank you
ya with the internal 4k
Anne A.
Personally, I use the D750 for car shoots
how do you like it?
Anne A.
I like it!
I use a suction mount to do motion shots - you don't have to go fast at all, or hang outside the car window lol
jsut photoshop out the pole :-)
can you give me a comparison between say your d750 and like the a7
i know you have MUCH more experience than i do hahah
and HEY sticking out of the window can be the fun part XD
Anne A.
it can! I worry more about dropping the camera!
so i have been using my camera for a year
would the 750 be a good upgrade?
IS IT FULL FRAME?
Anne A.
that would be a great upgrade!
it is full frame
what lenses would you reccomend?
Anne A.
I like the 16-35 for those shots
how much would i be looking into for a camera like this?>
Anne A.
let me check
would you be interested in refurbished items?
i have my nikon 3200 which i have already talked to someone on your end about trading in
Anne A.
ok
teh d750 refurbished, body only is 1599.95
the 16-35 lens is 1096.95. I don't see that available refurbished
i need more money :-(
the one guy i talked to earlier was saying he could possibly hook me up with a great deal if i traded in my camera
Anne A.
the used dept can help there
do you know of any other popular cameras in the car scene?
ah ok
Anne A.
the lens is an important part
even with the d3200, if you put a great lens on it, you'll get better images
what do you reccomend?
i really have no idea what to do
i want to start video
Anne A.
for rollers? or portrait - type shots?
i almost have the terrible aspect in my mind "more money for camera = better"
everything
would it be better to just get a better lens for my camera
or buy a new camera?
Anne A.
you will see improvement with a better lens
the 18-55 is a decent lens, but there are MUCH better lenses available
if you go to full frame, you'll see a lot more definition in the highlights and shadows and better low light performance
but that is going to cost a good bit
what price range are you looking at?
what lenses for rollers, stills, and video
Anne A.
you could start with the 35mm f1.8G DX lens on your camera
well i was going to sell my camera for hopefully 300$ and then get a 1000$ camera
i have no idea with the new lenses because i never thought about it
Anne A.
you can get the camera for that, but then you'll need a lens too
SO MANY CHOICES!
Anne A.
or you could upgrade to a better DX camera?
haha! there are too many options
well
i could
Anne A.
I would look into the d5500
it's still a crop sensor, but better iso performance and focusing
if i upgrade i would think a full frame because i would might as well go all the way
Anne A.
plus it has a flip out touch screen - great for low shots
and wifi
yes
Anne A.
the d5500 has wifi too
screen and wifi are important
Anne A.
if the full frame nikons, the d750 is the only one with wifi built in,
can wifi send pics to my phone?
Anne A.
well the D5 does too
yes
oooo
Anne A.
you can do that with the wifi adapter and your camera too though
ya
so,
Anne A.
it's not full frame, but it is a nice upgrade
and you'll really like the flip out rear screen when hanging out of the car window
what about a 5300?
Anne A.
that has the flip out screen but it's not touch
still an upgrade though
how much less
i like the touch screen lol
Anne A.
it would be nice to have
so you dont think a full frame is neccesary for me?
Anne A.
you can touch the screen to take a photo too
im doing a instagram page
Anne A.
if money is tight, it's not necessary
and youtube
and im about to hit 1000 followers so i thought i would upgrade
Anne A.
nice!
thanks!
d5500
Anne A.
the tokina 11-16 is a great ulra wide lens for it
would it be a pretty big difference?
Anne A.
from your camera now?
yes
Anne A.
you'll see faster autofocus for sure
and with that lens
Anne A.
and you'll have a lot more focus points to choose from if you shoot in single point focus
that lens is very wide
so if you do a pole mount on the car, it doesn't have to sitck out super far
or the 35mm is good too
ok
Anne A.
where do you shoot? car shows? clubs?
car shows and i am going to start asking for photo shoots
Anne A.
nice!
hit up the clubs! once one or two get theirs done, you always get more shoots!
car clubs that is
ok sweet thanks!
OK ONE LAST ONE
d7200
vs d5500
Anne A.
taht is my backup :-)
no tilt screen
Anne A.
no.
but it has a better focus system than the d5500
it's bigger too
do you shoot in manual or auto?
i will be learning manual lol
i know a bit
Anne A.
the D7200 has a better button layout for shooting manual
ok
is the quality better?
Anne A.
it has a front scroll wheel so you dont have to go into the menus as much
yes
it's built like the pro cameras
ah ok
Anne A.
the button layout on the d7200 is exactly the same as my d750
ohhhhhhhhh
i think the d5500
Anne A.
:-)
any other reccomendations for lenses or camera eqipment for the shots i take?
Anne A.
if you can, the 17-50 lens would work well for yuo
you could use it for action and portraits shots
it's a f2.8 so it's better in low light and it's better image quality than the 18-55 lens
so would lenses make a big difference?
Anne A.
yes
ok
i think i have made a decision
Anne A.
very big difference
thank you so much!
Anne A.
you're welcome!
