Hello! my name is Eric how can I help?
do you have a question about the jvc camcorder?
Hey, yes
I am a bit new to this
and want something simple that can give me a good cinematic look
Eric T.
ok. sounds good.
First off do you have a price range?
Probably $1500 all in
Eric T.
and secondly what kind of project(s) will you be working on?
Short comedy sketches, mostly for youtube for now
Eric T.
Ok, im looking through what we have
Now this doesnt come with a lens. but the black-magic cameras are very good for a cinematic look.
A ton of sundance shorts were made with the blackmagic camera
thats my concern though
I really want something as simple as possible
not really wanting to change lenses and such
I know that will be better for look
Eric T.
Got it.
but, I am a bit more of a beginner from the camera side of this
Eric T.
Ok here is another camera
this one a basic DSLR but still really good for video/filmmaking
im linking you to a bundle that comes with everything you need
including lens/case/storage
so, I was really interested in the JVC camcorder
what is your thought on that camera
JVC GY-HM170
Eric T.
My only issue with that camera
is the lack of interchangeable lens
Everything else is fine and the 4k feature is great too :-)
have you viewed test footage of it?
a little on you tube
do you guys have a good link I should look at?
Eric T.
there is a video at the bottom of the page
otherwise just google "JVC GY-HM170 4KCAM sample footage"
I think it looks pretty amazing
Eric T.
In the end the choice is yours :-) personally I like having the option of interchangable lenses, but if you can live without it thats a great camera
I just think for my needs, I don't want to have to deal with changing lenses and such
Eric T.
Thats a valid concern. In my experience if you order a lens with it it basically works the same way.
show me what you would buy in my position with an all in budget of $1500
Eric T.
I would go with the nikon d7100 with the lens
It may look complicated but its actually quite simple
ok, and why this over anything else?
Eric T.
Well short of a black magic it will give the most film-like look
And it comes with everything you need to get started
what are your feelings on the black magic pocket cinema?
Eric T.
I love it personally
Almost as good as having a movie-quality camera
