Hi, welcome to Adorama! My name is Cory. Do you have camera questions? Or how about questions on a lens? How can I help you today?
just looking at compact cameras that i can use my old Nikon lenses on as well any ideas its for traveling
Cory R.
Any that you would use your Nikon lenses on, you would need an adapter for, and lose AF and metering capabilities as Nikon has the odd crop rate vs the rest of the camera companies. Are you thinking mirrorless?
i think so ive been out of the game for awhile lol
Cory R.
Lol. It's become one of those things that many of the options you choose, you will lose auto focus with any camera option you pick, to adapt lenses onto
So you say its not worth getting a camera that cause use my old lenses?
Cory R.
Only camera that can use your old lenses would be another Nikon DSLR if that's what you are looking at, or you can go Nikon mirrorless and get their TF adapter I believe it is and that will work right, as they built it to work correctly
But if you switch brands and want to use the Nikon F mount lenses on it, you run into many difficulties
a few friends have told me just to get a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 IV
and call it a day
Cory R.
That would really be stepping down from a DSLR but it's an amazing camera
what would you suggest for that price range and closest i can get to compact and dslr power
Cory R.
The Sony a6300 if you want price range and dslr power in compact but you'd have to get new lenses.
what is the starting body+lens cost?
Cory R.
It's 998 for the body, 1198 for the body and lens. They just increased the price. It was right at the RX100 iv price last I checked
such a hard decision lol what are your thoughts between the RX100 4 vs the A6300?
Cory R.
One you have it all in one, but you lack the option to increase your zoom at all, the other you have to carry more around with you but you don't have the ease of use. I like the a6300 more. But then again I'm not a mirrorless fan at all
why dont you like mirrorless?
Cory R.
I haven't been able to pick it up and get to like it. It's just a personal preference. I can't put one specific finger on it.
what do you use?
Cory R.
I'm a nikon gal. I have 3 DSLR's and tons of lenses
okay lets talk nikon then what are my best options there comparable I hope im not wasting your time btw
Cory R.
Not wasting my time. What lenses do you have? That can help me out tremendously. Are you wanting to do the Mirrorless and use the adapter idea?
I think i have the standard lens that came with the D50 and a 55-300mm telopho lens
the one that came with it is a 18-55 i think
Cory R.
Ok, So if you wanted to go DSLR and that price range, I'd suggest the D5500, or the D7100, D5500 is better in much lower light options, and you can get it body only, to not re-buy any lenses
Or, here is nikon's mirrorless
v
It's the best they've got
And then here is the lens mount
