Jess H.
Hi there, I see you're looking at tele-extenders?
What lens do you want to put one on?
yes I am thank you
Jess H.
Great!
How can I help out?
well I need to make sure this extender will work with a canon Mark III
Jess H.
It will be great on the 5D III, however the lens is the more important part for being able to function well
Which lenses do you work with?
I use a 5DIII as well, LOVE it.
:-)
I have several lenses,50mm, 85mm, 70-200mm
Jess H.
I do think those will work, but let me double check
oh...ok
Jess H.
Just a moment
thank you
Jess H.
Very glad to help!
It is designed to work with the longer focal length lenses, the 70-200mm will be great with it.
In lower light situations you may lose autofocus, however
The others will work, but in manual focus
Will you need autofocus for the subjects you're shooting?
oh that wont be bad i usually use autofocus mostly
Jess H.
Okay
I'm doing body part close ups but I need extreme shallow depth of field
Jess H.
Ah, gotcha, definitely manual focus might be the way to go for best control then anyway
Should be perfect for that use!
great
one more question
Jess H.
Sure!
why is the 1.4x have better reviews but is the same price and the 2x
Jess H.
Sure, let me explain
The 2x since it has longer reach for you has more complicated optics, and so it does affect the image quality more
as for pricing, let me pull that up
Hmm that is odd on the pricing! I would have expected the 2x to be more
oh no lol
Jess H.
but for the reviews, I suspect it just comes down to the optics on the tele affecting image quality more
also it does require more light for autofocus
so people might be rating it based on ability to autofocus
which one? the 2x?
Jess H.
RIght the 2x needs more light
Does that help?
but I can use a speedlight right?
Jess H.
absolutely!
ok so you think the 2x is better for body close ups? I'm a fine art photographer and would like the body parts to look like landscapes, does that make sense? So does the 2x better for my purpose or the 1.4x
Jess H.
Have you considered a macro lens instead? It would give you so much better sharpness and noticeably higher image quality.
On the 5DIII this is the one I use, and it is amazing.
Oh wow that's a low
Jess H.
SUPER sharp
and not much more in price
plus it has the f/2.8 ability so you can use it in lower light
auto focus and attaches to the aperture changes?\
Jess H.
Yep!
oh ok.
Jess H.
Full control for settings
It's also super as a portrait lens too
Definitely would recommend this over using the tele
what the ratio?
Jess H.
Not sure what you mean by ratio? It is a 1:1 macro, and can focus as close as 1 ft
aperture goes from 2.8 to f/32
but I do think it would work for those abstract close ups, for sure
I guess I mean the macro multiplication? 2x 1.4x etc
I don't want 1:
1:1
Jess H.
Ah, gotcha
I want to at least double the objects
but still work close-up to them
Jess H.
Let me show you one more
however it is more pricey
ok
Jess H.
What price range are you wanting to stay in?
yeah that's out of my range
I have almost a full L series collectin
Jess H.
Okay. This is 1:1 all the way to 5:1 so would be perfect
this is for one series
after that I don't think I'll use
Jess H.
ah, totally hear you
then the tele might be the better option for you, getting super close up but great for your bag in the future also
so I felt an extender is better budget wise and for the use
Jess H.
Definitely
one more question...sorry. =D
Jess H.
Sure!
:-)
What else can I help with?
so just to make sure, the 1.4x is better rated because of the auto focus
Jess H.
I would expect between that and the fact that it impacts image quality less
can you explain what you mean by image quality? What gets distorded?
Jess H.
Because of the added optics, it does affect sharpness.
Not really any distortion
oh ok...so the 2x is not as sharp
Jess H.
right
I see. But is 3/4 less zoom-in then the 2x
Jess H.
yep, so there is that trade-off
sounds like the closer shots are more what you want?
yeah so it seem that it the 2x for me
Jess H.
and you can sharpen back up in processing too :-)
that's true
with sharpening?
Jess H.
right
great! it's in stock?
I get go today and get it now, righ?
Jess H.
