Is the Nikon 55-300 f/4.5-5.6 a good telephoto lens for the Nikon D5200?

Hi! I'm Jackie! How are you? I would love to answer any lens/camera questions you have.
Are you shopping for a lens today? How may I help?
Yes, I am. I have a Nikon d5200 and the lens it came with is the standard 18-55. I'm am very new with using my camera, but I want a lens that I can shot close and distance with. Can you tell me what is a good lens that has vibration reduction? Also, is buying a refurbished lens a good idea.
Jackie L.
The Nikon 55-300 is perfect for your camera and a very good lens for distance. It has the image stabilization and a good background blur as well.
Yes refurbs are done by Nikon back to factory specs
and they also have a 90 day Nikon USA warranty
Does that help?
Yes, that helps. Thank you. Can you help me learn what is a good lens to purchase?
Jackie L.
You have to have AF-S lenses for your camera
as they have the focus motor in the lens
I gave you the 55-300 as the best suggestion above :-)
It is a great lens and will autofocus nicely on your camera
Any questions?
What about the 18-300 lens?
Jackie L.
It is a good travel lens. All in onel lens as it goes from wide angle to super telephoto
Higher price, but good for all purpose needs
Would you say that the 18-300 is better than the 55-300?
Jackie L.
No the 55-300 is sharper and better image quality as there are fewer lens elements to go through
Oh, I see. Your knowledge is very helpful to me. Another question, I saw a lens 70-300 that did not specify vibration reduction, and amazon had it in a bundle for under $200.00. It was made by tamor
Jackie L.
They don't have the focus motor in the lens and not recommended with your camera. Only the 55-300 or 18-300 AF-S lenses are for your camera. YOu wouldn't be able to autofocus with it.
My recommendation woudl be the 55-300
Ok. Then that's what I'll check out. Thank you for your time and help. Enjoy the rest of your day.
