that lens works great with the D5500!
I am mainly worried about having the auto focusing work

it will work.
there is an older Tokina 11-16 that won't focus, but this version will.

I really haven't
I have this lens myself
it's very wide and not a lot of distortion
i use it for night photography a lot
thats awesome, I want it for hikes & sunset shots

it goes on sale occasionally, but I haven't seen it on sale for a while now
would you be interested in a used lens?
i would prefer to buy a new one anyway
