a EOS Rebel SL1 would be a great camrea for taking pictures of jewelry
the big thing you would want is a macro lens
regardless of the camera you buy
do you have a canon mount macro lens already? or would you like to look at some?

it does allow for a great variety of lenses!
they do have a couple of kits that include a lens
but they are not a macro lens
so it would be best probably to buy a body only and add a macro lens (which would also function as a regular lens)

that is my recommendation
basically like a dslr with an integrated lens
it has a $40 instant rebate
and included pretty much everything you would need to start including a tripod
only other thing I would recommend looking at would be a shot box w/ lighting for showcasing your items
