What inexpensive all-in-one zoom lens is sharp and fast on the Nikon D600 dSLR camera?

Hi! Welcome to Adorama! How are you today? My name is Anne. Do you have questions about a camera? Or a lens? How can I help?
lens
Anne A.
ok
how can I Help?
I have a Nikon D600 and was wondering about the Nikon 70 - 300 mm lens (169.95
Anne A.
that lens will work with the D600
so this would be a good deal. I bought the Nikkor 28 - 300 but am not satisfied with the results. will this be better
Anne A.
I don't think you'll be happy with this lens if you don't like the 28-300
the newer version of this lens is better optical quality
why? I want a simple zoom not something too fancy
Anne A.
the image quality of the 28-300 is actually better than this lens is
newer version fo 28 - 300 or the 70 -300
Anne A.
the newer version of the 70-300 is better than this lens
you mean the one advertised on Adorama for $169.95
Anne A.
no. that newer lens is 496.95
what about the 28-300 are you not satisfied with?
Ah! I see. I wanted somethin inexpensive . I do not take as many photos as I used to. I am a senior now and am leading a slower paced life
Anne A.
the 70-300 for 169 will let you see objects closer, but the optical quality isn't very good and it'll focus slower too
Oh, the 28 - 300it was OK and I paid an arm and a leg. Lent it to a friend and ever since it is not working as it used to
Anne A.
oh no!
that is a good lens
I also have the Sigma 70 - 200 mm - but find it too heavy & cumbersome - never used it and am wondering Why?? I bought it in the 1st place. I am an iiot for listening to the sales guy
Anne A.
that is a very good lens!
So the 28 - 300 is better than the 70 - 300 advertised on Adorama? or can you advise me what is OK for me. I also have a physical disability and find it difficult to carry heavy stuff around. I like taking macro photos (flowers etc. - sometime portraits - difficult as I do not know too many people) I love taking photos of nature (flowers/trees and animals - not so easy in the city unless you want the human kind of animal :-)
Anne A.
the newer 70-300 and the 28-300 are about the same in terms of image quality
but the 28-300 is a little lighter than the 70-300
So a 70 - 300 at 496.95 is OK - guess I have to chek the site again so I can order one.
Oh, you recommend the 28 - 300 mm - is there one at Adorama and How much is it. I did like this one when it worked. NEVER will lend my camera to others again
Anne A.
the 28-300 lens is 946.95
do you use that entire zoom range?
Hmm - almost as much as I paid for mine about 2 (or was that 3 yrs ago) & it was used too - BTW I am in Toronto so your prices will be +1/3 for me
Anne A.
If you don't need that much zoom, this is a very good lens too
oops, I think I lost you
Anne A.
I'm still here :-)
Sorry am not used to chatting - will check out the one you sent me - hope I can find it - unless you have a link, please and thanks for your help. What about the Sigma - should I trade that in for say 18 - 140 lens or something that will be good for macro photography besides the 50mm I have (that is a Nikon AFNikkor & I was thinking of upgrading)
Anne A.
the 18-140 is a DX lens and isn't ideal on your camera
Sigma makes some very nice lenses too
Hmm, now I understand - that sales guy really took me for a ride then. He knew the camera I had since I bought it from him. It is difficult to find honest people
Anne A.
the 28-300 is a good lens for your camera, but the 18-140 is for the crop sensor bodies
Thanks a bunch for helping - now I will check for the one you advised. Before I let you go - what should I look for the D600 and what to avoid - I mean DX lens is out - how about EX DG
Anne A.
EX and DG are features of the lens
those are both abbreviations used by Sigma
For Nikon (nikkor) lenses, make sure it doesn't say DX or APS-C
those are for the crop sensor cameras
what is DX then and why not for the D600
Anne A.
the D600 is a FX format camera, or full frame sensor
DX is a crop sensor, or APS-C sensor. It's a little smaller
Thanks you answered my ? Now to hunt for the one you mentioned and check what it will cost me in Cdn $. Have a good day Anne
Anne A.
thanks! you too!!
