Hi! How are you? I noticed that you were looking at Sigma lenses?
Did you have questions about any in particular?
Or need help finding one?
help!!!! I am totally confused about what I should buy for my second lens. I am shooting with a cannon rebel t5 1200d and right now I only use the kit lens 18-55mm. I use it for business purposes and for personal. someone else suggested the sigma 70-300. I need a lens for both outdoor and indoor use but it looks like I will have to get one for each purpose?
Courtney B
Ok!
So do you need a telephoto lens?
Is that what you're looking for?
Something with more zoom?
i guess that's what i need to determine. i will be shooting a wedding in a few months...would a telephoto be more suitable for that?
Courtney B
Not necessarily. What do you need the lens to do?
i guess i need to be able to zoom in if i can't necessarily get physically as close as i need to; also the wedding will be indoors and i am not sure how the lighting will be. i have mostly been shooting in settings where i can control the lighting.
Courtney B
Ok!
Then it does sound like you need a telephoto lens
Do you want the lens to zoom?
Or is a prime lens ok?
i am pretty new to this...explain what a prime lens is..
Courtney B
A prime lens is one that doesn't zoom at all
The advantage is that they're sharper and allow more light in
ok yes i need zoom. prime lens would be like the 50mm w/ lower aperture correct?
Courtney B
Correct
Did you have a budget that you need to stick with?
i prefer to stay under $200
Courtney B
Ok. Unfortunately in that range, you won't get anything good in low light
so what are my options other than increasing my price range; could i add an external flash to offset the low light?
Courtney B
Yes, that would help!
But your lens would still be right around $200, plus the cost of the flash
which lens do you suggest?
Courtney B
The 75-300mm is about the only option that falls within your budget
But it's not great for low light
For great low light performance, you need something that's f/2.8
that one doesn't have IS correct? and is image stabilization really that important
Courtney B
Correct, it doesn't have IS
But it is pretty important in low light
so if my budget wasn't the issue, which lens would you suggest?
Courtney B
Let me bring it up
This would be the cheapest lens that I would have that would work well in low light
so this particular lens would be more so a go-to for indoor use?
Courtney B
You can use it for indoor and outdoor
It works great for either
If you have a good quality indoor lens, it can always be used great outdoors as well
what would be a more cost effective version of that?
Courtney B
There isn't one. This is the cheapest f/2.8 telephoto available
If you wanted to save money, you could go used
But that's about the only way to cut costs if you want a good quality telephoto lens for indoor use
The Canon brand option is closer to $2000
So the Sigma is already a savings of $800
Do you have any other questions? Or is there anything else I can help you with? I'm happy to help if there is!
