Hi! How are you? I noticed that you were looking at used lenses?
Did you have questions about any in particular?
Yes. I recently purchased a Nikon D3000 from a family member. It my first venture into SLR cameras. It has the 2 kit lenses that came with it. I was disappointed when shooting side by side with my Cannon SX110 point and shoot camera and even my iPhone camera. The Nikon with the kits lenses is noticeably softer that the other 2. I am looking for a relatively inexpensive lens to get the benefits of an SLR but with sharper pictures.
Courtney B
Ok!
Sounds great!
What types of things do you shoot?
This will be mostly outdoors shooting. We will be vacationing in Ohio in a few days & I would use it on the trip. I prefer a zoom in the range of 70-300mm.
Courtney B
Ok!
Then you'd be looking at this lens, on sale for $496.95
VR is the other option that is missing from the kit lens. Is this a new or used price?
Courtney B
This is a new price
I have heard that the Nikon lenses are somewhat overpriced and that there are other lenses that can perform as well with a lower price. Do you find that to be true?
Courtney B
I would recommend the Tamron as well!
Let me see if they have a rebate for it right now
Otherwise the price isn't much lower
Here's the Tamron, which is very comparable for $349 after the mail-in rebate
It also has VR, which is great!
Is there a way to rate the sharpness of a lens?
Courtney B
No, unfortunately not
And this Tamron is a new lens?
Courtney B
Yes, it is
It's brand new with the full warranty
Ok. You have been very helpful. Let me look more at the Tamron lenses you have suggested.
Courtney B
Ok! You're welcome!
One more quick question--What is the designation for VR or image stabilization on the Tamron?
Courtney B
They call it VC
They call it vibration compensation
Thank you so much. You have been very helpful.
Courtney B
You're very welcome!
Have a great evening! :-)
You too!
Courtney B
Thanks! :-)
