looking at the canon ef 75-300mm...trying to understand diff between the 100$ and 200$ versions

Great all around lens! The 200.00 version has image stabilization
what does that mean? or do?

stabilizes the lens in low light shooting
makes for sharper images
The 99.00 one is actually refurbished
so it isn't a brand new lens
the 199.00 one is a brand new lens
both have a full 1 year Canon USA warranty
what are downsides of buying refurbished one

None actually, they are refurbished by Canon back to like new condition and factory specs
in low light why the need for stabilization...this is not about camra shake is it?

yes it eliminates camera shake
so it IS about camera shake the Image stabilization bit?
is that a big deal for an intermediate photog

it does help
but still very good in low light
i see...am not photog!
what is USM...she says something about motor noise

it is a slient motor in the lens
makes the lens quieter
does 100$ one have the usm?

am guessing quiet lens only useful for video?
