Something like that is not a true macro lens. All macro means on a lens like that is it will focus a little closer than normal.

but I think that is for a Full frame camera
not wanting to spend that much for the 60mm

Understand, full frame lenses will work on a Nikon very well. It does not matter they all have the same mount type.
What price range do we have to work with?
Would the Tokina AT-X 100mm f/2.8 PRO D Macro Lens for Nikon AF Fit & work on my D7100

Yes that lens will work very well on your 7100
I have read that Is a very good Macro lens but It would do more as well - is this correct ?

That is correct you can use it as an everyday lens. It also doubles as a great portrait lens etc.
