I need help with choosing a lens.
Anne A.
Hi! Welcome to Adorama! How are you today? My name is Anne. How can I help you?
Hi Myrna! I can help with that!
what camera do you have?
well ok so long story short i purchased a nikon fisheye 10.5mm 2.8G and received it today. But realized it doesn't focus so I'm going to return it even though it's pretty cool.
BTW it's for my Nikon D5500
So now I'm looking at this one and wonder how it will perform.
Anne A.
what will you be shooting?
someone also thought I should look at Sigma 10-20 f3.5 and i wonder what the differences are
I will be shooting landscapes mostly. going to Machu Picchu in August.
Anne A.
those are all ultra wide lenses.
sorry for rambling.
Anne A.
I prefer the tokina 11-16 f2.8 in this range
It's very sharp and give very little distortion too
is it fully compatible with nikon D5500?
whats wrong with he Sigma?
or Nikon for that matter?
Anne A.
Nothing is wrong with them but the tokina has a wider max aperture so you can use it in lower light
the nikon lens gives a good bit of distortion too
i c
actually have never heard of tokina
how much is it? I'm so used to the nikon brand
Anne A.
that is a very popular ultra wide lens. I use it myself for night sky shots
it's 479.00
interesting. is it fully compatible with nikon d5500?
AF-S
etc
Anne A.
it is fully compatible.
ok i'll look at it. can you send me a link?
Anne A.
sure!
and why not consider the Sigma 10-20 f3.5?
Anne A.
that's a good lens, but the aperture doesn't go quite as wide
and what do you do professionally other than this haha? what do you mostly shoot?
Anne A.
I shoot a lot of families. Some weddings, and a lot of automotive shoots
why is the token so much less expensive. trying to reconcile the price differences.
no landscaping?
Anne A.
Not professionally. I"ve done some real estate, but that's as close as I've come to pro landscape shoots
sorry landscapes
so to summarize the nikon is good but has some distortion; the sigma is good but not fast or wide enough; and the tokina does everything better and costs less?
sounds like a dream?
what gives?
Anne A.
the sigma is wider angle, but not as fast aperture
yes of course
but for landscapes do we really need it to be really fast although i guess if light is low that might be a problem.
ok so with regard to the nikon, or for that matter any other lens i research, there appears several of same. why? even some of the wording is different that it's confusing.
Anne A.
the actual lens is the same but the accessories included are different
ok so tokina lens is the only wide lens you recommend?
the one above
Anne A.
that is the one I recommend.
ok thanks so much. i appreciate your time.
Anne A.
you're welcome!
have a good evenign!
