Hello, welcome to Adorama! My name is Jeff, how are you today? How can I assist you?
HI. Am a beginner. Own Nikon d5300. Need a lens that will "do it all". Lol macro to long distance zoom. Any suggestions?
Jeff H.
The lens you are looking at the Sigma 18 – 300 macro lens would be a good choice. Although I need to point out. It is not a true macro lens. True macro lens have one: one ratio and are typically a prime lens instead.
When you see macro on a zoom lens that just means it allows it to focus closer than normal.
I figure that later I would need some different ones. Which macro would you suggest?
Jeff H.
What price range do I have to work with? It will help narrow down which lens I would recommend.
Probably on lower side- I have a point and shoot that has 21x zoom and macro so wanted something that might do that. Without changing lenses. Also focus is an issue as I shake I have parkinson's
Jeff H.
DSLR's have a different zoom ratio then point-and-shoot's. I will link to that is cheaper
The 40 mm is the cheapest macro lens, the 60 mm is the macro lens I use personally.
The 105 mm macro lens is also extremely popular.
These are to three lenses. Most people by for macro use on a DSLR.
That will give you a choice of three lenses at different price points.
Thanks.how does the sigma compare to the Nikkor 18-300 that I was also told about by someone
Jeff H.
They are both really good lenses. Although the Nikon does not have the macro option the Sigma lens has which you was asking about earlier. Plus the Sigma lens is a couple hundred dollars cheaper than the Nikon version.
Personally I like Sigma lenses and have quite a few of their zoom lenses in my bag
Ok so this sigma for 499.00 bundle would be good for me?
Jeff H.
Yes, I think that would be an excellent value for the money. It would do everything you were asking about with ease.
It will focus as close as 15 inches from the subject.
Thank you so much. I'm also looking for a pc new or used that I can use for photos/ editing etc.
Jeff H.
Couple questions, are you looking for a laptop or a desktop computer? Also, what price point do we have to work with?
Laptop $600-800. I have an old Mac Pro but it's telling me I need to update the graphics card. Plus I find it harder to use cuz I've always had pc. So I just figure I should get a pc
Jeff H.
The Asus laptop. I linked will be great for what you are asking it to do.
Ok thanks. I was told Intel core i7 is best????
Jeff H.
It is the fastest, but to stay in your price range. The i3 works very well. Will you be editing a lot of pictures all the time? Or just once in a while as a hobby?
Hopefully more in the future. I am retired and really love to play around with editing. I will spend more now so it's the last one I need for a long time
Jeff H.
I think the laptop. I linked would be a great one to get you started.
Ok I thank you very much. !!
Jeff H.
You're very welcome, was there anything else assist you with?
No but how can I save this chat info?
Jeff H.
Sadly, the only way I know to save the chat would be to highlight it, copy it, and paste it into a text document.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day! Remember if you have any other additional questions, please do not hesitate to come back okay? I will not close the window until you've had a chance to copy and paste the information, or you can close it when you are done.
Ok thanks
