Hi! Welcome to Adorama! How are you today? My name is Anne. How can I help you?
Good morning!
Are you shopping for a lens today?
Yes, I am. I am wondering if this lens will allow me to get a wide-angle photo. I am not real knowledgeable about cameras. Nilon 35 mm f/1.8G, SKU: NK3518UV MFR: 2183 KV
Anne A.
It is a wide lens - what lens do you use now?
I have a Nikon D5000 camera. I have the standard lens that came with the camera kit, 18-55mm, 55-300mm and a Tamron 18-250 lens.
Anne A.
the 35mm lens is a good lens, but the 18-55 you have now is wider angle
For example, I want to be able to take a scenery photo of a large area and get the whole thing in the frame.
Anne A.
Do you want wider than your 18-55 lens?
yes
Anne A.
Do you want auto focus? Or is manual focus ok?
For example, at Horseshoe Bend in Arizona, I couldn't get the whole river bend in the photo. Yes auto focus. I am still not good with the manual controls.
Anne A.
the Tokina 11-16 is a good lens for that
I am looking for something a little less expensive.
Anne A.
ok
this is a less expensive, ultra wide lens
but it's a fisheye and manual focus
It works with a Nikon, correct?
Anne A.
yes
I was also looking for somthing that would blur the backgrounds of photos better. I can't seem to get the right amount of blurring with my current lens.
Anne A.
you need either a wider aperture for that
or more distance between the subject and background
I've tried adjusting it but my f-stop on the lens only goes from f/3.5-5.6
Anne A.
it is hard to get that blurred background with the kit lens
That is what I thought. Is there an inexpensive lens that will do that?
Anne A.
the 35mm will do that, but it's not as wide as the kit lens
So the 35mm will give me the blurred backgrounds, but not the wide photos that I also want?
Anne A.
correct
Ok, I will take a look at the lens you recommended. I probably need a one-on-one teacher to understand my camera better. I took classroom lessons, but I am a hands-on type of learner. Thanks for your help.

We do have a lot of great tutorials in the Adorama Learning Center too :-)
Ok, I will look at those also.
Anne A.
ok :-)
Do you have any more questions? Or is there anything else I can help you with today?
