Hello! how are you? do you have a question about canon cameras?
Yes, I do. I was about to call, actually. I myself am a Nikon D90 and D700 user--and bought both cameras from Adorama. My current predicament is that I have a client who has just purchased a Canon Powershot 410 SX and they want testimonials produced. I tried this weekend and the ambient sound was crazy loud. I am trying to find how/if I can purchase an external mike for this camera. (The client is a small foundation and so does not have deep pockets.) Nevertheless, we need sound quality. Ebay has a 7-piece video mic filmmaker kit for Canon Powershots SX510, 410 and 400. BUT this is not a Canon kit.
Do you know IF I CAN ACTUALLY PURCHASE A SHOTGUN MIKE AND ATTACHMENT FOR THIS CAMERA? And if so, do you sell it?

The answer is no, none of the powershots have external mic inputs
If you want better audio you would have to do it with an external recorder like the h4n zoom or something
do you want to take a look at those?
I don't exactly know what you are talking about. Is that a different camera?

no its a recorder, here ill show you one
Basically when there is no way to connect external audio to a camera, which is more common that I'd like to be honest
you have to use an external recorder and splice the sound in afterwards in an editing program

really? I have Final Cut Pro. The person who bought this camera for the foundation told the director that it had external mike capability.YIKES. I was worried as I was researching this and not finding reliable sources and how to do this.

Okay, but, the testimonials wanted are video. And having done these myself years ago, I know how important great audio quality is. So..........the h4n is only audio. What do you recommend we look at for video with shotgun mike for filming testimonials outside in a park setting?

Okay, that is good. If only my D90 could record longer than 5 minutes, I'd look into attaching a mike to it!
I need to talk to the director about price. She is of the understanding that this Powershot can get her what she wants. So, I need to softly tell her what is possible and not. And then broach buying a new set up.
