Joao M.
Hi! I'm Joao, how are you? How can I help? Any questions on pro audio gear?
Hi, Joao
Joao M.
Hi!
how can I help?
I have some qustions about what equipment I need for recording a documentary
Joao M.
ok cool
I'm using a Nikon D7200 and already have a shotgun condenser mic
Joao M.
nice
I'm new at this and trying to do it myself
Joao M.
ok
I'm noticing that with that mic there's a lot of external or ambience noise
Joao M.
with the shotgun mic?
yes
Joao M.
hmm that's odd
shotgun mics are designed to me very directional, so they pick up only what you put in front of them
and not the surroundings
what shotgun mic do you have?
that's what I thought
the rode
Joao M.
ok
is it one you mount on top of the camera?
yes
Joao M.
ok
are you using a screen for it?
I forgot to use it
Joao M.
ah ok
in those shots
Joao M.
alright
the screen should make a big difference
do you think it will be better with the screen?
Joao M.
yea, definitely
ok I will try that
Joao M.
alright cool
But I was thinking to find out with those mini mics
I forgot their name
Joao M.
do you mean lavalier mics?
there you go
thanks
Joao M.
the ones you attach to the person
right
Joao M.
yea
do you think if there's noise I can remove it from the video and make it a little bit clear?
Joao M.
yea you can, with a plug in
like X-noise from Waves plug ins
you would do that during editing
excellent
Joao M.
to clear the audio up a little, but you may still have some noise depending on how loud it was to begin with
do you have the lavalier mics for a nikon D 7200?
Joao M.
let me check
are you at NYC?
Joao M.
I'm not
I found the lavalier mics though
because I want to go to the store
Joao M.
just looking for one that will work with DLSRs
oh ok cool
do you see it?
do you think it will work with that camera?
Joao M.
yea
it's the 3.5mm audio connector
yes
because I bought the Rode something GO and didn't work
Joao M.
here's another one
this one is also universal and will work with your camera
if I need to interview to persons at the same time, what do you recommend?
Joao M.
I would then recommend using an external audio recorder, that can handle multiple mic inputs
I have the Zoom H1 do you think it would work?
Joao M.
well that would work just like a shotgun mic though, catching the interview but also background
it just has one input
Joao M.
right
that would work just like a shotgun mic though, catching the interview but also background
ok. so which one you recommend?
Joao M.
let me show you
something like this
do you see it? check it out
oh, wonderful, I'm thinking about it.
Joao M.
ok great
so, what I would need is that recorder with the lavalier and connect it direct to the recorder and the rcorder to the camera?
Joao M.
yep, that's correct. That recorder has two inputs for two separate mics
the recorder wouldn't connect to the camera though, it records the audio to SD cards
later, you would import the video and audio to the computer, and sync them on editing
hahaha, sorry I'm learning with you
Joao M.
it's ok! :-) glad to help!
ok, let's wrap ...
Joao M.
ok
I will need that recorder and maybe one or two lavaliers? Or just the recorder and stay with the shotgun microphone?
Joao M.
I would get two lavaliers, and the recorder
and use the shotgun mic for other type of shooting, like landscapes or ambience, etc
and maybe a stick to hold the shotgun?
Joao M.
yea, that would be helpful too, using a boompole to hold the shotgun mic closer to the source
perfect
Joao M.
awesome
in case the lavalir doesn't work with my camera? Can I return it?
Joao M.
yes, we have a 30day return policy
with no questions asked
and you get a ful refund
full refund
excellent!
Joao M.
:-)
did you want to order the lavalier mic?
another question i have about sliding the camera... do you have something economical?
Joao M.
ok cool
let me see
and also the pole something handy and cheap
Joao M.
ok
here's a slider, do you see it?
it's a very good one
that's awesome! I will bye first the mics and recorder
Joao M.
ok cool
and here's a boompole
for the shotgun mic
do you see it?
are you ordering the mics today?
that's the less expensive?
Joao M.
there are some cheaper ones, but they are flimsy, not very stable and "feel" cheap
this is the best one for the price
ok
so let me try first the audio gear
Joao M.
ok cool
I can go to NY store and pick it up?
Joao M.
yea!
ok let's do it.
Joao M.
ok great
what do I need to do?
Joao M.
you wanted the lavalier mics and the recorder right?
you just need to add them to the cart and begin the checkout process, then select "pick up in store"
another question, sorry... do you think you would have a book to help me wit process that you recommend
Joao M.
hmm
let me see
we do have this guide
online
check it out
do you see the link on here?
