Also, in the accessories for the camera it had three things that said "required" but I'm a little confused on the adapter versus the memory stick

you can use either the Sony SxS memory card
or the adapter with a class 10 sd card
which has more memory?

there's also an xqd card adapter
you can get an sd card with more memory
you can get an xqd too, but they cost more
so the adapter is required for a higher memory SD card?

I don't see anything specifically for this camcorder, but you could use a pelican case and customize the foam insert
